I used my car today for the first time since December 16, 2004, 34 days ago. I am a public transportation person, but 34 days without using my car verifies that I am definitely relaxing and enjoying my retirement.. I am out every day; however, I use the T to get around Boston and Cambridge. Today, I went to an all day meeting at the Microsoft office in Waltham, MA. It was probably good to give the car a good run after sitting for over a month.

In the little over seven months since my last workday, I have put 1600 miles on the car. App. 1000 of the 1600 was for my Montreal, Quebec City, and Lake George trip at the end of the summer. The remaining 600 miles was during the other six months, an average of 100 miles a month.

I am 98% sure I will be retiring from the MWRA on June 30, 2004, the last day to qualify for the retirement incentive of an extra 5 years added to your age or years of service. Update - I did take the retirement on June 30, 2004. This will be my second retirement. I retired from the US Postal Service on November 20, 1992, again taking advantage of a retirement incentive. This retirement will be different; I will be 57 and the MWRA may be my last full time job.
